About Us

INTL is a contractual company offering a cost effective solution to augment a clients project team preventing overruns in time and cost. The Director, Simon Ball, has over 40 years of experience in the industry.

Simon started in the industry at 17 years old as an apprentice with London Underground. After completing the apprenticeship and receiving several awards, he passed the UK ministry approved Power Signal Lineman’s examination. Simon then transferred to the Signal Design Office and attained a BSC(hons) degree in Electrical and Electronics during that course. Later, he returned to London Underground Maintenance area as the Maintenance Assistant examining failure trends and equipment faults.

In 1977, Simon took a position in Brisbane, designing and then later filling a checking role for the Brisbane Electrification. In 1979 he became the Products Manager developing and manufacturing signal equipment for GEC, tendering large projects, filling various roles within the company and later the Deputy Divisional Manager. From late 1985, Simon became a freelance signalling engineer assisting the rail authorities and various companies with a number of major Australian Projects covering all states where rail exists. Also at this time a New type of Air Valve was developed by INTL and tested in NSW – this was later taken up by Westinghouse and used on their signalling projects.

In 1986, Interlock Signalling Australia Pty Ltd was launched along with Europe Eurocrest Ltd. This enabled Simon to work on the London Undergrounds Central Line in design verification, the Northern Line compiling the specification for the works, Docklands Light Rail as the project Manager for the Airport extension and the development of ERTMS for Alstom/Network Rail Alliance.

In Australia, Simon has continued to work on a number of major projects and alliances in the Design Verification Field.
